LAHORE – A local court has issued non-bailable arrest warrants of four witnesses after they failed to appear in an illegal weapons case against Mustafa Kanju, son of former state minister Siddique Kanju.
Judicial Magistrate Akram Azad Awan had repeatedly summoned the witnesses including Idress, Imran, Imtiaz and Ghulam Rasool for recording their statements but they failed to comply with court orders. At this, the court took a strict notice of their absence and issued arrest warrants of all four witnesses.
The court directed the police to arrest the accused and produce them on April 30. South Cantonment police had registered a separate case of illegal weapon against Kanju after an unlicensed Kalashnikov was recovered from his custody when police arrested him on charges of killing youth Zain and injuring another.
It is pertinent to mention that the court had already declared Mustafa Kanju an absconder on his failure to appear before the court despite being repeatedly summoned in the case.
