ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Monday directed Geo television to submit a reply for airing unverified news item regarding Pakistan’s Ambassador to United States Jalil Abbas Jilani.
PEMRA ordered Geo news to respond to its notice by September 12 for airing false news about Jalil Abbas Jilani, a press release said. After airing of the news, the ambassador complained to PEMRA that the news was baseless and not only misled the people misled but also the international media.
He said that the false news gave the Indian media an opportunity to spew poison against Pakistan. “This was done at a time when Pakistan was raising awareness and lobbying against the oppression perpetrated by India and its forces against the Kashmiris,” the complaint said.
